Alma Bashears left Contrary, Kentucky after a devastating incident and moved to California where she became a successful lawyer. She vowed to never return to the Appalachian Mountains but when her brother is arrested for murder she has to. She is a strong woman who fights for what is right and is not afraid anymore of the past. She deals with her cousins murder, crooked lawmakers, drug dealers, kidnapping, love and moving on with her life. There is a lot going on in this story but you will not get lost anywhere in it. It is well written and told with such precision that you feel like you are right there.This is a wonderful book which somehow I managed to read before reading the first in this series. I don't think it is going to take away from the story though and I'm reading the 1st book now. This is one of the best series I have read in a long time and I can't wait to find out more about Alma, her family and the people from Contrary.
Tess Collins is a wonderful author and I look forward to reading more of her books. This is a wonderful book and anyone that reads this series will not be disappointed or let down in any way. Loved it from the very first page.

This is a great series. Enough of a plot to make interesting, but not so intricate to make it a hard read. I hope the author keeps them up!
The story gives you what you need to solve the murderer but you don't realize it.until the culprit is revealed and the clues laid out in front of you.
All in all a good read.
The Law of the Dead flows smoothly from the first book in the Appalachian Trilogy, Tess Collins continues to give us gripping, intelligent story telling, while avoiding contrived stereotypes. Seeing Alma's growth as she confronts villains and her own demons was a joy. Look forward the next installment.
I really love this book and the characters in it. It is a great read and I would recommend it to anyone.

The first book was so well written that I had to read another book of this series. If you like good crime novels you should read this.
This is another great book by this author. Great story. Held my interest every minute. I will soon start the third book in this series. However, each book has had more than a few typos. What amazes me is, they are the same words in both books. The typos don't detract from the story! They are like fingernails on a chalk board to me. WHY ARE THEY NOT CAUGHT DURING THE PROOFREADING!!!!!
